Mind your language! An Italian *&*&!@@*&$*$&$&#

Some trademarks don’t mince their words. Take, for example, a German man, who filed a trademark application for clothing entitled BASTARDO ITALIANO.

We’re not sure whether he has a deep-seated aversion to Italians or he just wanted a ‘modern, tough-talking’ trademark, but let’s give him the benefit of the doubt, and assume the latter.

There are several countries where trademarks containing certain swearwords soon run into problems. The European Trademarks Office, for example, is none too fond of bad language, and trademarks with words like FUCK and MAFIA are routinely rejected. BASTARDO ITALIANO met with the same fate, as the trademark authority considered it both racist and insulting. To be honest, they have a fair point. So it’s back to the drawing board to find another cool trademark − one that is more in tune with modern sensibilities.
